How We Sort

One organizer, six formats, one set of label checks for every product, and a short list of things we refuse to do. This page is the whole method.

Why we sort by format

Most vitamin coverage sorts products by what they promise. We think the more useful question is how you actually take the thing. The same nutrient can arrive as a gummy, a capsule, a softgel, a tablet, a drop or a scoop of powder, and the format quietly decides a lot: how many pieces make one serving, whether there is sugar or a sugar alcohol in it, what the shell is made of, which allergens come along, whether it is easy to swallow or easy to mismeasure, and what a day's serving costs.

So the homepage is laid out like a weekly pill organizer. Six compartments hold products, one per format, each with its own lid color that follows the format everywhere on the site. The seventh compartment holds the guides that explain the differences. The layout is a way of sorting, not a suggestion that anyone should fill every compartment.

Gummies

Chewable and flavored. Every gummy entry states the sugar per serving from the label, or what sweetens it if the label says it is sugar-free.

Capsules

A shell around a powder fill. We say what the shell is made of when the label or the manufacturer tells us.

Tablets

Pressed, coated or chewable. We report how many make a serving and any warning the label carries, such as the iron warning.

Softgels

A sealed gel shell around an oil. We name the oil and the shell source, including fish gelatin where it applies.

Drops

Measured by the drop or the dropper. We explain what one serving actually is and how long a bottle lasts at the label's serving.

Powders

Scooped and mixed. We report the scoop size in grams and what the scoop delivers, as printed.

How a product earns a compartment

Every product entry has to pass the same checks before we write it up. If it fails one, it does not get a page.

  • An established brand with a live listing on Amazon.com. We open the listing ourselves and confirm the title, the brand's store, the exact size or flavor, and that it is in stock. We do not write about products we could only find through a search page or a reseller, and we do not cover products sold only on their maker's own site.
  • The Supplement Facts panel, read literally. From the listing images and the manufacturer's own page: serving size, servings per container, each nutrient with the form it is in, the % Daily Value column, and the other-ingredients line. We report what is printed and say when something could not be confirmed.
  • Format facts on every entry. Each entry has a panel with the serving size, the count, the sugar per serving and the label's allergen statement, plus a week strip that draws one labeled serving per day in that product's format, so a two-gummy serving looks like two gummies.
  • A price with a date on it. Every price on this site says when we saw it, which size and which seller, and we work out the cost per labeled serving. A price is only true on that day. We never write "currently", and we ask you to check the Amazon page before buying.
  • Certifications checked at the source. A seal appears in an entry only if we found it on the listing or the manufacturer's page and, wherever the program publishes one, in the certifier's own directory. USP Verified, NSF Contents Certified and a certified-organic seal are different things, and "made in a GMP facility" or "third-party tested" are not seals at all. We keep those distinctions.
  • Evidence in proportion. For what a nutrient does, we rely on primary and government sources such as the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, MedlinePlus and the FDA, and describe what they say in the same careful structure-and-function terms they use.

How we make money

The Vita Modern earns money in exactly one way: the Amazon Associates program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Every product button on this site goes to that product's Amazon listing, and if you buy through it we receive a small commission from Amazon at no extra cost to you.

There is no other affiliate program, no direct-seller link, no sponsored post, no paid placement, and no free product accepted in exchange for coverage. A brand cannot pay for a compartment here, and the commission rate on a product plays no part in whether it gets one or in what the entry says. The full version is in our Affiliate Disclosure.

What we do not do

  • We do not run lab tests. We are a small editorial team without a laboratory. When testing matters, we name the certification program and check its directory, or we say plainly that the testing status is not disclosed.
  • We do not give medical advice. Nothing here is written for your situation, and we do not tell anyone which supplement to take or how much. If you take medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have any existing condition, talk to a clinician or pharmacist before starting or changing a supplement. That caution sits on every relevant page on purpose.
  • We do not make health claims. We do not say a product will change how you feel or look, and we do not repeat the support claims printed on packaging as if they were ours. Where a front panel carries claims, we describe them as the brand's.
  • We do not target conditions, ages or body types. Entries describe products, not people. We do not write "for people with" anything.
  • We do not invent people. The byline on every page is The Vita Modern Editorial Team. There is no fictional doctor reviewing entries, because we would rather you judge the sourcing than a face.
  • We do not sell or ship anything. Every purchase happens on Amazon under Amazon's own terms. See Shipping and Returns.

Who writes this

The Vita Modern is published by Ancient Herbs and Spices LLC, a company based in Trabuco Canyon, California. The pages are written and maintained by a small editorial team. We are not clinicians, dietitians or pharmacists, and we do not claim to be. What we bring is a process: open the listing, read the label, find the primary source, date the price, write it plainly, and say when we could not confirm something.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong, we want to fix it: a price that has moved, a serving size we misread, a reformulated label, a certification that has lapsed, a link that has died. Write to us through the Contact page with the page address, the sentence or number you believe is wrong and, if you have one, a source we can open ourselves.

When we confirm an error we correct the page and update its date. If the correction changes what the entry actually says about a product, we add a short note on the page saying what changed. We do not quietly rewrite history.

How often pages are reviewed

Every product entry and guide carries the date its label or sources were last read. Our working rule is to re-open every Amazon listing we link to at least once a quarter, confirming that the ASIN still resolves to the same product, size and flavor, that it is in stock, and that the Supplement Facts panel has not changed, and to re-check a price whenever we touch a page for any reason. Between reviews a listing can change without telling us, which is why the date on the page is the only date that counts. If you are relying on a price or a label detail, check the listing first.
